Growing up in small-town Illinois, Joe F Burgess Jr learned early about hard work, family, and the stories ordinary people carry through life. A carpenter from the age of 14 into his 30s, football coach, educator, superintendent, workforce development advocate, and now songwriter, Joe writes from lived experience instead of polished theory. His songs reflect blue-collar America, redemption, heartbreak, family, faith, humor, second chances, and the everyday lessons learned the hard way.
Joe’s writing blends country, Americana, faith-country, and southern rock influences with conversational storytelling rooted in real life. Influenced by artists like Toby Keith, Jason Aldean, Luke Combs, Brad Paisley, and Garth Brooks, his songs often explore personal experiences, life choices, resilience, and the emotional realities of small-town America.
A lifelong writer through educational leadership and public speaking, Joe turned seriously toward songwriting to put meaningful life messages into words people can relate to—songs that might help someone through a hard day, difficult season, or moment of reflection. Though new to public songwriting releases, his authentic voice and grounded perspective have quickly become the foundation of a growing catalog of emotionally honest country songs.
Joe is a widower who lost his wife Kathy in 2017 and remarried Patti in 2021. Together their blended family includes five children and five grandchildren who continue to inspire much of his writing about love, loss, legacy, and second chances.
Today, alongside his work in workforce development and construction technology with BuilderFax/Lumber, Joe continues building a catalog of songs centered around real people, real struggles, and real hope.
